Derawan Island

            Hi guys! I come to give you an option when you’re on holiday. I have a place that you have to consider as your destination. That place located in Indonesia obviously. And the name of the place is Derawan Island, East Kalimantan.

About the Island, The Derawan islands must be everyone’s dream of the perfect tropical paradise: warm, isolated  islands with soft white sand beaches fringed with waving palm trees, pristine seas that change color from green to deep blue, and an amazing underwater life of giant turtles, dolphins, manta rays, dugongs and barracudas, stingless jellyfish and sometimes, whales  Derawan is indeed one of world’s richest areas in bio-diversity. Small wonder that the Derawan Islands are considered the third best dive destination in the world.

By the way, To reach Derawan, you can take SilkAir flies from Singapore to Balikpapan in East Kalimantan. Or you can take a flight from Jakarta, Surabaya or Denpasar to Balikpapan or Tarakan by Garuda Indonesia or Mandala Air. Then take a connecting flight by either KALStar, Deraya airlines or DAS to Tanjung Redeb in Berau. From here, boats will take you to the islands. The cost of a ticket is not too high if you take a low cost carriage plane. It’s about 550.000 IDR – 800.000 IDR. Then for the boat it include with cost of the resort.

            Then for the resort, The Derawan resort provides transportation and diving equipments. For accomodation, the resort offers Kalimantan-style cottages facing the sea. There are also simpler accommodation and restaurant facilities available on Derawan and cottages on other islands.

 

You can also book liveaboards (boats designed for people living aboard them, usually for long journeys) to Derawan from Bali. The cost of the resort start from 550.000 IDR – 650.000 IDR per person per Night. But it can be more cheaper if you have accompany. For example, if you bring 10 person the cost wil down to 330.000 IDR per person per night. It’s cheap right? But the resort located in the other island. So like I said before you need a boat to get to Derawan Island.

Next for the facilities, All Derawan Resort serve your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also they rent us snorkel and diving attribute if you want to snorkeling or diving. It was part of the package of the resort.

In Derawan Island you can do a lot of activities such as sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, diving and see the tortoise shell. 

The activity is same as when you’re at Kuta in Bali. The different is the air of the Derawan Island is more fresh than at Kuta. For the water, it’s also more clear tham Kuta. Then the last and most Important thing is Derawan Island located so far from the crowd, and for your information, people rarely to come to the Island. So in other words it will be quite and calm when you visit this island. Surely, if you pay visit to this island, you’ll never regret it.
